The problem being that the xbox reboots to switch output to whatever component is next in the list of attached cables when one of them is shut off. The 360 has to reboot to do this. A single hdmi cable can't cause it to behave that way even if the cable is bad. You would lose picture and there would be some screen artifacts but it wouldn't reboot.
